Grid Connection Grid connected systems are those that are connected to the regular power grid. In other words, your home or building can still use power supplied by the utility company. However you will also be able to generate your own power and consume it. This will save on your utility bills, because you will only pay for the extra amount you derive from the utility grid. If you generate more power than you use, then you can sell the extra amount you generate back to the utility company. In practical words, your electric counter will start turning backwards and crediting you money for the electricity you sell to the grid. In grid connected systems, sometimes it is more feasible not to use storage batteries, because the extra energy generated is being sold to utility company instantaneously. This is good, because you can avoid the expenses associated with batteries. In order to make the DC (direct Current) generated useful for household appliances, a device called an ''Inverter'' is being used. An inverter is an electrical device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC); the resulting AC can be at any required voltage and frequency with the use of appropriate transformers, switching, and control circuits. |
